Established in 2018, the Ordered Matter Science Research Center is an independent research institution at Nanchang University. Its research fields cover multiple disciplines including chemistry, physics, and materials. The Center focuses on researching molecular ferroelectric functional materials, developing "ferroelectrochemistry" to guide the chemical design of molecular ferroelectrics, studying the ferroelectric-related properties of molecular ferroelectrics and revealing the mechanisms, as well as exploring the applications of molecular ferroelectrics.

The Ordered Matter Science Research Center has a spacious laboratory, covering an area of more than 10,000 m2. The laboratories are equipped with first-rate instruments and facilities for the research of molecular ferroelectrics, such as professional synthesis laboratories, clean rooms, glove boxes, a variable-temperature single crystal diffractometer, NMR, a variable-temperature powder diffractometer, PFM, a Raman spectrometer, a ferroelectric test system, a piezometer, a dielectric tester, GC-MS, GPC, a variable-temperature SHG, a fluorescence spectrophotometer, a UV-vis spectrophotometer, VCDs, CDs, a vacuum coating machine, a nano-indentor, and a white light laser confocal microscope.

Since the establishment of the Ordered Matter Science Research Center, the research team, focusing on ferroelectrochemistry, has published over 40 high-level papers in internationally renowned journals, including Science (2 papers), PNAS, Adv. Mater., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Chem. Soc. Rev., and Trend Chem.. The project “Design of Molecular Piezoelectrics by Ferroelectrochemistry” led by the research team won the First Prize in Natural Science of the Ministry of Education of China. The research team has also received approval for over 10 research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

At present, the entire faculty of the Ordered Matter Science Research Center is dedicating to the research of molecular ferroelectric materials, with a spirit of seizing every moment to break through the bottleneck of molecular ferroelectric materials in devices and applications, aiming to realize the industrial application of molecular ferroelectric materials in important technological fields such as information storage, intelligent sensing, energy conversion, and micro-actuator.
